Fortitude Coffee is one of those coffee shops that you look long and hard to find. Inside, you will find this amazing uniqueness that lends to the atmosphere and environment that owners Matt and Helen Carroll have been working hard to achieve since they opened the doors in 2014.
At the time they were a multi-roaster cafe serving coffee from all over the U.K and Europe. They decided to begin roasting in 2016. They were drawn to roasting by the creativity involved and inspired by the potential to be able to offer some unique, amazing coffee to our customers.
They roast on a 12kg Diedrich in their warehouse by the Firth. In the beginning, there was a lot of trial and error as they were discovering how their roaster worked, what coffee they wanted to serve and how to get everything in the cup they wanted.
Zach joined the team at the beginning of 2018 and now they have come up with a true taste for their coffee blend that makes them all happy. They love being able to be transparent and share as much information as they can about the journey their coffee has been on to get to their cup.
Fortitude Coffee is situated just around the corner from Edinburgh Bus Station. If you are visiting the area, then stopping off to have a speciality coffee should be the first destination through the historical city of Edinburgh.
How it All Started
The journey for Fortitude Coffee Roasters began in 2014 when Matt and Helen opened a small speciality cafe in the centre of Edinburgh, which at the time was still a relatively new concept (although it has now exploded). Over the next three years they worked hard and developed a reputation for serving some of the best coffee available in the capital.

The Ethics Behind Fortitude Coffee
At Fortitude Coffee, the team believes in good quality coffee and that it is a simple pleasure to enjoy everyday. They specialise in small batches of high quality coffee roasted with their red Diedrich roaster in Edinburgh.
All the coffee that is roasted here is single origin and responsibly sourced. Their menu changes seasonally and they are proud to offer complete traceability from farm to cup.
Blue Coffee Box featured their La Palma Coffee from Peru with Hints of stone fruit, berries and flora and Colombian Santuario with notes of banana, toffee, and brown sugar.

What You Will Find Inside at Fortitude Coffee
Fortitude only has a few seats inside but this means that they can dedicate more time and attention to each coffee served. They really care about the coffee and craft each drink using filtered water and single origin beans. Their coffee is seasonal and lightly roasted to bring out the delicate and complex flavours in every cup.
