Craft House Coffee is an independent speciality coffee roaster in Sussex. It was founded in 2015 by Tom Osborne, who wanted to understand every step of coffee, from the farm to the cup. Today it roasts for home customers and wholesale partners.
How it began
It started with an obsession with making the perfect brew. The more Tom learned, the more questions he had: where does this coffee come from, what happens in the roaster, and what gives a coffee its character? Roasting was the natural next step, because the roaster is involved in everything from sourcing to serving.
Tom started roasting on a bright orange Giesen roaster in the Sussex countryside. Tom has since moved on, and the business is now run by a new team.
How they source and roast
Craft House works with origin partners to buy speciality coffee from farms around the world, with traceability back to the farm. Once a coffee arrives, the team develops a roast profile to bring out its best flavours. When we spoke to Tom, he described it simply: "It's all about finding a coffee that we love... coffees we are passionate about, love to drink and have that magical pop to it."

- Favourite origins: "Colombia and Burundi. They just seem to have a diversity and complexity that shines above the rest."
