Cast Iron Coffee Roasters is an independent speciality coffee roaster near Chichester in West Sussex. It was set up by husband-and-wife team Guy and Tilly Spurr, and Guy is the head roaster.
A roastery you can visit
Cast Iron's roastery is at The Mill on Stane Street, just outside Chichester. Roasting, barista training and their quality control lab all happen in one open-plan space, with a coffee shop at the front, so you can watch your coffee being roasted while you drink it. It's open seven days a week; check their website for the current opening hours.
Roasted to order

How they buy their coffee
For Cast Iron, good coffee starts at the farm. How a cherry is picked, processed and transported all affects how it tastes, so they buy traceable coffees and go back to the same producers year after year. That can cost more, but it gives producers more security and means better coffee in the cup.
Meet Guy
When we spoke to Guy, he called his coffee career a "mid-life opportunity project". His favourite origin is Ethiopia, which he sees as the gateway to speciality coffee for a lot of people, and his advice from all the coffee books he's read is: "take what you like from them but roast your own way."
Outside coffee, he has raced in the Nürburgring 24-hour race three times, but told us his proudest achievement is coming second in a village fete's cheese straw competition.
