The Hario V60 coffee maker is a pour over method of brewing with a huge range of version with Perspex, ceramic and metal.
They all feature a 60 degrees angle with spiral grooves, hence the name V60. Of all the advanced modern coffee brewing methods, pour-over is regarded as one of the best.
The reason is because it extracts the flavour from all of the coffee and the filter provides a very clean cup. It is also very quick and easy to clean, you just dispose of the filter with the grounds in it and rinse it.
How to Make a Cup of Hario V60 Pour-over
Directions:
Step 1: Boil the kettle using fresh, filtered water.
Step 2: Fold the crimped edge of the filter over and place into the V60. Rinse it with boiling water, this will get rid of the paper flavour from the filter and it will stick the filter to the V60.
Step 3: Grind approximately 20 grams of fresh coffee beans. We recommend using a medium-fine grind, or the dripper option from our subscription.
Step 4: Place the coffee grounds in the filter. In total, you'll need about 300ml of water that's just below boiling temperature.
Pour about 50ml of water over the grounds, starting in the centre. You just need to wet the coffee grounds, not oversoak them in water. Let sit for about 30 seconds. It is much easier to pour the water with a gooseneck kettle or pot.
Step 5: Start pouring the remaining water on the grounds, from the centre, slowly going towards the edges in circle-like movements, making sure water doesn't get poured directly on the filter, take your time here, as this is a two-minute, three-minute process.
Step 6: Let the coffee drip through and keep it topped up until you have used up all the water.
The Hario V60 brew method is not something commonly used in a typical household. In fact, many coffee lovers feel discouraged when they think about purchasing a Hario V60, mainly because of the level of difficulty that comes with this sort of brew.
But once the final step is over, you should be left with an absolutely brilliant cup of coffee that will most surely make you glad you went the extra mile in order to properly enjoy that caffeine goodness.
